“When I was in the NBA, I used to live in the gym,” DIESEL (aka four-time NBA champion center Shaquille O’Neal—maybe you’ve heard of him?) tells Apple Music of his Fitness mix. “I still spend a lot of time there, but I need that extra boost to get the most out of it. The music is always what takes me there. This mix should be used to help you power through your lifts or runs when leveling up, and cooling down with the sing-alongs during your rests.” O’Neal is no stranger to the world of recorded music, having made a number of hip-hop albums throughout the ’90s. But ever since he played his first DJ set as DIESEL at Electric Daisy Carnival in 2021, he’s been making inroads into dance music. “I wanted to put together a mix that could be misinterpreted for a recorded live set from a festival,” he says. “A ton of energy and headbangers. I wanted to spin out new music from my upcoming album to give the fans a sneak peek into what I am dropping later this summer. This mix also includes a ton of the collaborators from my album who are next up on the scene, like CELO, Soltan, Hairitage, Jessica Audiffred, and more, so I wanted to show off their bangers too.”
