World War III

World War III

Mikey Dread made this album around his 1980 sessions with The Clash, and tracks like "Skin Head Skank" sport the same trippy textures that he brought to Sandinista!. Deep dub mixes and distinctive croaking vocals became his trademark, but he's no slouch as a songwriter. He's doomsaying on the title song, spiritual on "Jah Jah Love (In the Morning)," and high-stepping on "The Jumping Master." The reggae-rocker "Break Down the Walls" shows some Clash influence, and he heads into outer space on the dub-heavy "Mental Slavery."
