Anchored In Love: A Tribute to June Carter Cash

Assembled by John Carter Cash, the only child of Johnny and June, to coincide with the publication of his book, Anchored in Love: An Intimate Portrait of June Carter Cash, Tribute consists primarily of recordings from the Cash recording studios in Hendersonville, Tennessee by artists who understand the Carter family’s historical importance and emotional breadth. The Carter Family classics have become such American traditionals that it’s a bit like discovering the author of “Happy Birthday” or “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow.” But A.P. Carter holds the credit for such evergreens as “Wildwood Flower,” covered here by Loretta Lynn, “Will the Circle Be Unbroken,” delivered by Ralph Stanley and “Keep on the Sunny Side,” handled here by newcomer Brad Paisley. Elvis Costello chimes in with a sensitive read of Cash’s “Ring of Fire.” Billy Bob Thorton narrates “Road to Kaintuck” with the Peasall Sisters providing the melodic counterpoint.  Emmylou Harris finishes things with the June-penned “Song to John,” Carter’s tribute to the son she’s left behind.
