Some producers in our Early Hours mix series skew deep and dark, delivering wobbly, off-kilter soundscapes. Others, like the fast-rising DJ and producer Luzana Flores, better-known as OLAN, prefer something more buoyant and introspective—the sort of stimulating, dreamy sounds you’d want to wake up to. “[My mix] starts pretty mellow and moves into more complex beats,” Flores tells Apple Music. “I wanted to find songs that I’d want to listen to while I made coffee or breakfast for a lover. That definitely made things harder since I didn’t follow my normal approach of making sure things are DJ-set friendly.” Of the many excellent selections here, “Everyday” by Bearcubs has been on heavy rotation, she says, as has Machinedrum’s sensual, synth-y track “Star” (featuring Mono/Poly and Tanerélle). Flores loves the pacing of the beats and “how the vocal cadence sits in the song,” she says. “I go back to that album more often than I’d like to admit.”
