Toronto native Preston Chin initially built a fanbase online by crafting dance-floor edits of K-pop hits. As Robotaki (a play on “Robatayaki,” a style of grilled Japanese food), he became a go-to remixer for major pop acts like The Chainsmokers, Phoenix, and Porter Robinson. But his own style, showcased here on six wide-ranging tracks, is downtempo and nostalgic by comparison, full of disco shimmer, swirling guitar licks, and soulful vocals. On Science, the now Montreal-based artist doubles as an A&R man on songs like “Butterscotch” and “Limbo,” which see newcomers Jamie Fine and Shor riding Chin’s glitchy groove.
