Bruch & Tveitt

Bruch & Tveitt

This album may be called Bruch & Tveitt, but Norwegian violinist Ragnhild Hemsing has generously thrown a few extra treats into the mix. Johann Svendsen’s Romance for Violin and Orchestra, once championed by the violinist-composer Ysaÿe, is a delight and Hemsing lavishes evident love on it, while Huldra Aa’n Elland by the short-lived Sigurd Lie is a charming folk-inspired concert piece. The ever-popular Violin Concerto No. 1 by Bruch receives an impressive, beautifully judged performance, and reveals Hemsing’s strong musical personality. As does the Hardanger Fiddle Concerto No. 2 by another Norwegian, Geirr Tveitt, a wonderfully atmospheric, haunting piece and a real discovery.
