A singer, drummer, percussionist, and guitarist, Sheila E was born into the music business. Her father and uncle, Pete and Coke Escovedo, were both accomplished artists who played with Santana, among others; her godfather was the legendary Tito Puente. She started recording in the '70s, working with heavy hitters like Marvin Gaye and Herbie Hancock, but it was her association with Prince in the '80s that really brought her into the public eye. She collaborated with him from Purple Rain through Lovesexy while also releasing several successful solo albums, including the hit The Glamorous Life. She stayed busy throughout the '90s and '00s, releasing new material, playing festivals, reuniting with Prince, appearing on the TV program Gone Country, and performing at the GRAMMY® Awards. Sheila E ICON is her seventh solo album and her first since 2001. It proves without a doubt that she's still going strong, tackling love songs, party jams, and multiple genres with equal abandon. Don't miss "Mona Lisa," "Girl Like Me" (featuring Ledisi), "Nasty Thang" (with MC Lyte), and the Prince collaboration "Leader of the Band."
