Sin City The Mixtape

Sin City The Mixtape

Like the Chucky doll he keeps around, there’s a malevolent glee to the Slump God’s raps, a cartoonish sense of violence that makes his most vivid threats feel surreal, even silly. He’s cold like a reptile, with flows so infectious you can hear the pus (“Dr. Suess”). He likes Shrek because Puss in Boots always has a blade on him. Cross the line and he’ll beat you so purple you’ll look like Barney’s toe (“The Matrix”). The style is manic (think Busta Rhymes and Twista, but also Denzel Curry), the beats are rubbery and stripped down, and nothing runs much longer than two minutes. When he shows his tender side (à la his departed collaborators Juice WRLD and XXXTENTACION), it’s under a fog of guitar drones (“Lost in Time”). But mostly, he sounds like he’s going to eat you and have a good time doing it.
