Do It Anyway

The ’90s era of country music is an especially fruitful source of inspiration for today’s artists, and that includes Jade Eagleson. For his third studio album, the Bailieboro, Ontario, native tapped two famed session players who helped define the ’90s sound, Paul Franklin and Brent Mason, to play on Do It Anyway, bringing some vintage authenticity to the project. “I have always been a fan of the artists and musicians behind the timeless sounds of country music, and have huge admiration and respect for the legendary session players of the ’80s and ’90s,” Eagleson tells Apple Music. “My wildest dreams came true when Paul Franklin and Brent Mason agreed to come in to record on my album, combining their traditional twang and musicality with [producer] Todd Clark’s (Dua Lipa, Noah Kahan) modern creativity.” The record opens with “Neon Dreamin’,” a lively, colorful tale of meeting “an angel shooting whiskey” in a “double-wide” dive, with an unapologetically ’90s pop-country sound. “Honky Talkin’” takes cues from neo-traditionalists, with its two-stepping beat and healthy dose of twang. And ever one to keep listeners on their toes, Eagleson also includes a cover of the One Direction smash “Steal My Girl,” putting his own stamp on the boy band classic.
