Ever since hurtling his way into the hearts and minds of music lovers worldwide with the breakthrough single “Me Rehúso,” Danny Ocean has consistently been a Latin pop artist well worth watching. For his first album project since 2019’s 54+1, the Venezuelan singer-songwriter reveals just how much stronger he’s gotten as an artist after his pivotal viral moment. Teeming with thumping tracks that act as sonic sequels and thematic extensions to his earlier material, @dannocean gives fans what they’ve been waiting for and then some. Dembow-driven collaborations like “Dorito & Coca-Cola” with Tokischa and “Tú no me conoces” with TINI mesh well with like-minded solo cuts, including “ADO” and the thumping “Apartamento.” While tropical rhythms, luxuriant synths, and personal sentiments largely define the album, Ocean proves repeatedly that he’s not to be pigeonholed, a point made evident by the pop-rock shuffle of “Rubia sol morena luna v2” and the sensational synthwave of the enigmatically titled “???”. Nine months after dropping the original 16-track effort, he expands @dannocean with 10 additional songs. These newer cuts complement the preceding ones’ melodic and rhythmic qualities as well as their themes. The dichotomous pairing of “NO ES AMOR” with Mora and “SI ES AMOR” with Beéle plays out like a conversation, each one incorporating island accents beneath Ocean’s soaring vocals. Later, Big Soto brings a refreshing romanticism to “Disfruta tu viernes” while ELENA ROSE adds heartfelt depth to the danceable duets “Las estrellas/Si tu me love me.”
