B.O.D.Y.

B.O.D.Y.

Florida rapper Ace Hood follows his 2022 LP M.I.N.D. (Memories Inside Never Die) with a release also indebted to an acronym: B.O.D.Y. (Build or Destroy You). Both albums channel Hood’s passion for motivation, self-determination, and obsessive grinding into street-ready anthems. B.O.D.Y., though, also features Hood giving himself more space to celebrate his wins. On B.O.D.Y. standout “Feelin’ You,” Ace takes a break from pushing himself to get better every day, instead lavishing praise on his significant other. “I just gotta be honest, girl, you one of the finest/Not just only your body, but the way you be vibing,” he sings, channeling G-funk-inspired R&B vibes. The synths rumble beneath his passionate calls for romance, making the song a nice counterpoint to his anthems of resolve. Make no mistake, though: There are still plenty of moments on B.O.D.Y. where Hood puts his entire community on his back, asking them to be all they can be. On “Energy,” he cues up rumbling lo-fi drums, woozy synths, and his quickest, most precise flow. He raps, “With a flow like this, shit hit with an impact/How he do it, I don't get that/He a father, artist, man, and a good dad/Real n***a to the core and I meant that.”
