Early Hours (DJ Mix)

Early Hours (DJ Mix)

Early Hours can mean a few different things: Are you winding down after being up all night or just rising to meet the sun? Often the artists helming Apple Music's exclusive Early Hours DJ mix series cater to both frames of mind. Such was the case with Marsh, the British DJ/producer (born Tom Marshall) who took cues from the outdoors. “Where this mix really shines is when you go for a walk on your own—headphones in, just with the music and the outdoor environment,” he tells Apple Music. “It creates a great space to process life.” Inspired by an old Best Works Records mix from the Berlin-based techno producer David Krasemann, better known as Dave DK, Marshall sought out songs “with the power to uplift and impact mood,” he says. You’ll hear tracks by the American film composer Thomas Newman, whom Marshall credits with “not shying away from deep feelings.” Elsewhere, alongside atmospheric cuts from Jon Hopkins and Aphex Twin, he includes several tracks from Manchester dub innovator Synkro. “His music has provided so much inspiration for my records over the years,” Marshall says. “It takes me to a dreamy place, like a flashback to a perfect memory where no suffering or pain existed.”
